It was hard to escape the conclusion that Elton John and Katy Perry are worried about Donald J. Trump.
In a bedazzled show of pop force on Wednesday night, the singers all but pleaded with an audience of high-rolling Democratic donors at Radio City Music Hall to put Hillary Clinton in the White House.
The alternative, they suggested, was unthinkable.
โThis is a very important year for America,โ Mr. John said from behind a grand piano, his sequined blue jacket shimmering under the glow of a spotlight.
โAnd sheโs the only hope you have.โ
At that, the audience at the concert, which featured the entire Clinton clan โ Hillary, Bill and Chelsea โ roared.

John, who got multiple ovations for his 30-minute set hits, including Tiny Dancer, told the crowd that Clinton is the only candidate who can get elected in the fall.
โThis is a very important year for America, and sheโs the only hope you have,โ said the British-born John, who is a legal resident of the USA but not a citizen. He can’t vote but he can donate to political campaigns.
John dedicated his final song of the night, Still Standing, to Clinton.
John performed eight songs, including popular singles “Tiny Dancer” and “Your Song.” He dedicated his last song, “Still Standing,” to the Democratic presidential candidate.
