Elton Supports Bruce Jenner

Elton John has called Bruce Jenner “incredibly brave” for revealing his desire to live his life as a woman. The rocker gave the 1976 Olympic decathalon champion his unequivocal support for his decision.

Jenner, 65, publicly spoke about his transition in a two-hour interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s 20/20 last night (April 24). “For all intents and purposes, I am a woman,” he said. ”My whole life has been getting me ready for this. It’s not just the last few years. I just can’t pull the curtain any longer.”

John can certainly relate to Jenner’s having to hide who he is from the public for so many years. He announced he was bisexual in 1976, and was married to Renate Blauel from 1984-88. It was only after his divorce that he has been much more open about describing himself as gay, and he has long been an outspoken voice on issues that affect the LGBT community.

“I think anybody who comes out like that is an incredible brave person,” he told Access Hollywood in the video embedded above. “It’s an incredibly brave thing to do, especially when you’re older. I admire him for doing it and I support him 100 percent.”

David Furnish, John’s husband, then added, “People should support him.”
